National Board Certification

What is National Board certification?

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an organization of teachers and other educational stakeholders who are working to strengthen the teaching profession.The board has established rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. This voluntary system is designed to assess and certify teachers who meet these standards.

What is the NBPTS Teacher Assistance Program at CSU?

The program is designed to assist teachers in preparing to stand for National Board certification.

Benefits of the Program

  • Advanced knowledge of NBPTS certification standards.
  • Understanding of the standards in your own certification area.
  • Practice in defining, describing, and analyzing your teaching.
  • Hours can be used as electives in most CSU master's and specialist programs.
  • Taught by NBPTS-certified teachers.

Part I

EDCI 6115 NBPTS Pre-Candidacy: Understanding the Process & Principles.
(3 semester hours)

Part II

EDCI 6116 NBPTS Candidacy: Preparation and Documentation.
(3 semester hours)

Program Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience.
