Council for Exceptional Children, Student Chapter #418

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the professional organization for special educators, offers exciting opportunities to new and continuing professionals in the field of special education. The College of Education's student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children is a student-led organization for those interested in providing appropriate educational opportunities for students with special needs. Through the excellent leadership of its officers, the CEC student chapter has been involved with several fun and interesting service-learning activities including Challenger Little League Baseball, Chattahoochee Valley Down Syndrome Support Group, local Special Olympics events and the Sara Spano Clothing Bank. In addition, the organization holds semester meetings with guest speakers to discuss pertinent issues concerning the profession of teaching, students with diverse educational needs, and disability and culture.

This year's chapter officers are working hard to continue to make this a chapter that serves the needs and interests of its members. If you are interested in becoming involved as a member or have any suggestions regarding chapter activities, feel free to contact any of the officers:

President: Amber Crawford

Vice-President: Jessica Muroski

Secretary: Emmanuel Brunson

Treasurer: India Jones

Faculty Advisors: Dr. Toni Franklin & Dr. Greg Blalock

What's Happening in 2014-2015

This year promises to be another great one for chapter 418. Once again we will be supporting the annual Chattahoochee Valley Down Syndrome Association's Buddy Walk on October 4. But we are also continuing our relationship with other important community organizations both within and outside of Columbus State University.

All are welcome. Contact us to learn more about how you can get involved in our worthwhile professional support and social activities!
